Technical Officer (Microprobe), Centre for Advanced Microscopy – The Australian National University

The Centre for Advanced Microscopy (CAM) is located within the ANU College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. CAM proudly houses state-of-the art microscopy and microanalysis equipment such as TEMs and SEMs as well as a new JEOL JXA8530F Field Emission Gun electronprobe microanalyser (EPMA). The centre has a team of experts to guide, assist and train users of our facility in sample preparation, instrument operation and data analysis thereby supporting researchers across the material and life science disciplines.

The Centre is seeking to appoint a Microprobe Engineer (Technical Officer) with extensive experience in the use of electronprobe microanalysers (EPMAs). The primary focus of this position is the operation of the JEOL JXA8503F Field Emission gun electronprobe microanalyser. The successful applicant is expected to provide user training, equipment management and maintenance in order to support research of users from a wide range of disciplines. She/he must have extensive knowledge of electron microprobe analysis methods and related techniques as well as a willingness to develop a range of new analytical methods made possible by a field emission instrument.

Salary package & appointment type:

$83,223 – $87,570 per annum plus 17% superannuation
Continuing Contingent Funded appointment – The initial period of appointment is two years, with a strong possibility for a further extension.
